Okay, I’ll admit it - I love Orange County Choppers. The personalities remind me a lot of a job I had in the past. Oh well, one of the best characters on the show was “Vinnie” (Vinnie DiMartino), the patient guy who seemed to have the real skills and work ethic. Anyway, Vinnie left the show and has joined with “Cody” (Cody Connelly) to form VForce Customs. They hope give away their first custom chopper at Bike Week 2008. You can read about them in Autoblog.com or in the VForce Customs website.

If you are reading this blog, you are probably someone who loves motorcycles. Be thankful for that. As a retirement planner, the saddest thing is to see people who worked like dogs their entire lives, but have nothing to do when they stop working. They don’t really love anything. They tell me that they just want to live on a little money, and don’t really have anything that they want to do. It just kills me. If I had the time and money now, there are a million places I would like to go and see. I would go to rallies - I would do Ironbutt rides - I would cover every inch of the world that I could. So what’s worse - having a passion that you cannot pursue or having no passion at all? For my money, I’ll take the passion any day. Good financial planning can buy your freedom from work, but you better know what to do with that freedom. As motorcyclists, we do.

The American Motorcyclist Association is calling motorcyclists to action to support a bill in the House of Representatives that would end discrimination against motorcyclists by health insurance companies. The bill (H.R. 1076 - HIPAA Recreational Injury Technical Correction Act) would close a loophole in the original HIPAA bill that allowed health insurance companies to deny coverage for injuries incurred in lawful recreational activities (like motorcycling). Last year, a similar bill correcting the problem passed the Senate, but stalled in the House. This bill has 101 co-sponsors in the House, but needs 218 votes to pass. If you are interested in helping, read the post by the AMA here and follow the link to the AMA Rapid Response Center.

A BMW Press Release announced the price of the HP2 Sport as follows:
The BMW HP2 Sport, arriving soon at US BMW Motorrad retailers, will have a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $25,375 (excluding taxes, license, options, and handling charge) and a destination charge of $495.
(Well, I knew that it would be expensive, but . . . wow! It is beautiful though.)

Here’s a chance to see some real heroes and ride at the same time. The famed Tuskeegee Airmen will be at Roosevelt’s Little White House Historic Site near Warm Springs, Georgia on Saturday, February 9 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. (More information here.) This African-American fighter unit flew 15,553 sorties during WWII and completed 1578 missions without losing one bomber that they escorted. (See their website here.) The Atlanta chapter of the Patriot Guard Riders will form a flag line for them, so this should really be something to see. As a personal note, it has been a true honor for me to live during a time where I could meet and talk to WWII veterans - real heroes in my book. If you have kids, it’s important for them to meet the people who paid for their freedom. Let’s show them that the motorcycling community in Georgia really appreciates what they did.
